Ke$ha Is Channeling ‘Sexiness’ Of ’70s Rock For New Album

Glitter-heavy pop star tells MTV News she’s going for ‘balls-out, irreverent rock and roll.’

Ke$ha‘s already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she’s even taken to guzzling blood out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most theatrical era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s.

Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM’s annual Wango Tango concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout Animal album (and, we suppose, Cannibal too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much everything else.

“The next album … I’ve been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it’s gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll,” she said. “I’ve been pretty much in this ’70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that’s just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f—, so we’ll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it.”

So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha’s new album is still a ways off, she’s already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc.

“I’m trying, trust me,” she laughed. “I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that’s my dream. I’m working on it.”

What do you think of Ke$ha going rock for her next album? Tell us in the comments!

Robert Pattinson’s Undercover LA Cruise

Situated back on the west coast after spending a few days in Toronto, Robert Pattinson was out cruising the town to kickoff the weekend in Los Angeles on Friday night (September 30).

The “Twilight” heartthrob did his best to cover up his face while sporting his trusty Baltimore Orioles ballcap and scruffy facial hair as paparazzi desperately tried to snap up shots.

Meanwhile, one of Robert’s “Twilight” co-stars recently voiced her irritation over constantly being questioned about his doings rather than their film projects.

Anna Kendrick, who stars in the just-released picture “50/50,” told press, “They always come up to me and go in talking about the movies but then they always dispense with that and go for the Rob question and what he’s really like. I’m like, ‘Dude, I don’t want to talk about that.”

With a Little Luck: A Novel

My good friend Caprice Crane’s new book, With a Little Luck, is out today. Yay, Caprice!

It’s gotten great reviews:

“Crane is one of the funniest writers of popular fiction around. The dialog (inner and outer) is laugh-out-loud, snort-inducing hilarious . . . Readers will want to cross their fingers and spit while throwing salt over their shoulders if it helps Berry reach her dreams. Highly recommended.”

Library Journal

“Fans of Stacy Ballis and Cara Lockwood will appreciate Crane’s effortlessly funny style, which is often attempted in popular fiction but is rarely this well executed…Lighthearted and charmingly honest.”

—Booklist

“[A] satisfying romantic comedy…[with] real character growth.”

—Kirkus Reviews

And even better blurbs:

“Romantic, poignant and funny—this book is a lucky find for lit fans. Caprice Crane is a nimble and gifted storyteller.”

—Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno

“A hilarious romp that oozes charm and giddy fun. Caprice Crane is a true talent.”

—Molly Jong-Fast, author of The Social Climber’s Handbook

“Witty, fast-paced, and sheer fun. Caprice Crane is a master of dialogue. Half the time I was reading this book I was smiling, which made me look like a crazy person on the subway.”

—Jancee Dunn, author of Don’t You Forget About Me and Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?

“Absolutely charming and hilarious.”

—Missy Peregrym, star of the movie Stick It and ABC’s Rookie Blue

With a Little Luck scores in humor, head, and heart. In other words, it’s a perfect trifecta.”

—Karyn Bosnak, author of 20 Times a Lady (soon to be the major motion picture What’s Your Number?)

(Omg, who is that last fantastic blurber?) (I meant every word of it.)

And most importantly, she has the cutest dog ever (who likes to video chat with Bev):

Anyway, check it out, buy it—it’s fantastic!

Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ Video: Queen Of Pain

Second clip from 21 perfectly captures song’s somber feel.
By James Montgomery

Never mind the fact that, in person, Adele is so bubbly she’s practically effervescent. When it comes to her albums, Adele is pain personified. Alone and adrift, brokenhearted and bitter — these are emotions we all feel, but rarely do we have the courage to express them like Adele does.

And nowhere on her 21 album is that more apparent than “Someone Like You,” the stirring, somber closer in which Adele goes to visit a former love (with high hopes of a reconciliation), only to discover he has not only moved on with his life, but is in a much better place. And though she’s heartbroken, she puts on a brave face, stubbornly proclaiming she’ll find someone just like him, even if she knows that she never will. And that conclusion makes you ache not only because it’s so daunting, but because it’s so real. We’ve all felt that way, tried to trick ourselves into thinking that any other outcome was possible. In Adele’s music, much like life, there are no happy endings.

“Someone Like You” was a natural choice for the next single from 21, and on Thursday (September 29), Adele premiered the video for the song — an equally somber affair that matches not only the song’s emotional wallop, but its straightforward, downright crushing simplicity.

Shot in Paris, in the very early hours of the morning, it is little more than Adele wandering the deserted streets of the city, gazing longingly at the Seine, very nearly breaking into tears. Director Jake Nava made the smart decision to shoot it in arty, smudgy black-and-white, which only adds to the clip’s desolate, haunted feel. In a lot of ways, as she drifts along, Adele is little more than a ghost, haunting the streets, destined to remain invisible to all, especially the one she wants to notice.

It’s a lot like how everyone feels after heartbreak, and that’s what makes the “Someone Like You” video so powerful. There are no special effects, no camera tricks or elaborate choreography, because those are quick fixes. Life doesn’t operate that way, especially when the bottom falls out and we are all alone. Our days are endless, our hearts black, our skies are gray. And when it gets to that point, all we have is our pain, majestically, beautifully so. Thankfully, we also have Adele, and that sonorous, sorrowful voice of hers. Long live the Queen of Pain.

Black Eyed Peas Star-Studded “Concert 4 NYC”

Not letting rain stand in their way, the Black Eyed Peas took over Central Park last night (September 30) for CHASE Presents The Black Eyed Peas and Friends “Concert 4 NYC.”

Stacy ?Fergie? Ferguson and her “Just Can’t Get Enough” bandmates played to well over 60,000 soaking wet fans including E! reality star Kim Kardashian while belting out some of their biggest tracks like “My Humps,” “Where is the Love?,” and “I Gotta Feeling.”

Adding to the show’s star power were on-stage appearances by Kristin Chenoweth and Jeremy Renner, who urged the crowd to grab their cell phones and pledge their donations.

The concert, previously scheduled for June 11th before being postponed due to thunderstorms, raised more than $4 million for the Robin Hood Foundation – a poverty relief organization that focuses its efforts on the Big Apple’s needy individuals.

Michael Jackson Manslaughter Trial Begins Jury Selection

Dr. Conrad Murray faces charges he administrated lethal dose of sedatives to Jackson.

It’s been more than two years since Michael Jackson‘s death shocked the world on the eve of the pop icon’s planned comeback tour. In the time since, the focus has turned to the King of Pop’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who officials claim administered the lethal combination of sedatives that ended Jackson’s life at age 50.

On Thursday (September 8), jury selection began in Los Angeles in Murray’s manslaughter trial, which promises to grab headlines for the next month as prosecutors aim to pin the “Thriller” singer’s death on a series of actions Murray allegedly took in the hours before Jackson’s passing.

No cameras will be allowed inside the courtroom for the trial, which will begin as soon as 12 impartial jurors can be found, a task that will likely be challenging given the worldwide attention Jackson’s death generated.

Jackson died on June 25, 2009, after suffering cardiac arrest at his rented Hollywood mansion. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled that the 50-year-old singer died of “acute propofol intoxication” in combination with the use of sedatives. Authorities have claimed that cardiologist Murray administered a lethal dose of the surgical anesthetic to chronic insomniac Jackson in an attempt to help him get to sleep. Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter last February in connection with Jackson’s death and has pleaded not guilty in the case. The doctor is out on $75,000 bail and faces up to four years in prison and the revocation of his medical license if convicted.

After taking care of Jackson and the singer’s children in his hometown of Las Vegas, Murray was hired by the pop star to be his personal physician in the lead-up to a series of 50 comeback shows at the O2 Arena in London dubbed This Is It. Murray was by Jackson’s side the night he died and has admitted to administering several doses of propofol and other sedatives to his client, but his lawyers have said that the physician did not give the fatal push of medication.

Instead, they reportedly are planning to argue that Jackson — a chronic insomniac who was allegedly addicted to a deadly cocktail of strong sedatives in order to get rest — gave himself the final dose while Murray was out of the room.

According to a Reuters report, in the first three days of the oft-delayed trial more than 480 potential jurors will be brought through the court house. They will be given a 30-page, 117-question survey seeking their past experience with prescription drugs, doctors, celebrities, news outlets, law enforcement and queries about their DVD collections, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Among the questions on an earlier version of the questionnaire: “Have you ever considered yourself a fan of Michael Jackson or the Jackson family?,” “Did you ever watch [the Jackson documentary] ‘This Is It’?” and “What Internet sites or blogs, if any, do you visit on a regular basis?”

The pool will be cut down to 100 potential jurors who will return for more questioning later this month. The trial is expected to last five weeks, with opening arguments set for September 27.

Beyoncé‘s surprise pregnancy reveal wasn’t the only bump to show up this week. A number of artists also got an expected iTunes VMA bump, as their singles shot up the iTunes digital charts in the wake of their performances on the record-setting broadcast.

The biggest leap was made by Adele, whose second single, “Someone Like You,” shot right up to #1 on the tally in the wake of her dramatic appearance on the broadcast, a rise of 441 percent. The song was not even in the top 10 when iTunes released the charts for the week ending August 22. Though iTunes does not release sales figures, there was clearly some serious online purchasing that went on, in addition to a major flood of Twitter traffic caused by the VMAs.

Among the other beneficiaries were Lady Gaga, whose Jo Calderone-fueled take on “Yoü and I” pushed that song back into the top 10 to #4 as of Thursday (September 1). And, after dropping Tha Carter IV at midnight on Sunday, Lil Wayne was all over, with “Mirror” moving into the #5 position, “Blunt Blowin’ ” at #13, “MegaMan” at #23 and “How to Love” at #15.

Beyoncé herself had a boost from the night, as her “Love on Top” performance pushed the not-officially-released-as-a-single single to #3 (currently at #9) as sales picked up by 221 percent. Pre-show performers Cobra Starship were feeling the love also, as “You Make Me Feel” moved up to #6 after having faded to #11 before the broadcast.

Also benefitting were rockers Young the Giant, whose performance likely helped breakthrough single, “My Body,” shoot up 223 percent to land at #2 on the alternative singles charts and #24 on the overall chart. The band’s self-titled disc also saw some serious love, with sales expanding by 220 percent, moving up to #4 on the iTunes album chart. House artist Jessie J got the bump as well, with sales of her album, Who You Are shooting up nearly 200 percent.

Chris Brown‘s high-flying VMA medley also pushed him up the charts, as his singles “Beautiful People” and “Yeah 3X” soared by 904 and 149 percent, respectively, on the iTunes singles chart.

The love was spread far and wide, as evidenced by the 1,375 percent jump for Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse’s version of “Valerie” — performed by Bruno Mars during the Amy Winehouse tribute — and the Foo Fighters’ VMA-winning “Walk,” which had a 120 percent jump on the iTunes singles chart. Sales of Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends” were up 76 percent on the iTunes singles chart after the song was heard in the Britney tribute to the pop star and Pitbull’s summer jam “Give Me Everything” surged 71 percent on the iTunes song tally following his performance.
